Aidan Kearns (b. 2003) is a visual artist and aspiring educator creating light-based installations that generate discussions about where exactly Asian Americans find themselves in our current cultural landscape. Through a practice that merges puritanical Minimalist and Modernist ideas with contemporary materials and themes, Kearns’ work speaks to the complicated and unresolved histories that pervade Asian American life.
Kearns redefines the color yellow through the art-making process as a symbol of Asian American excellence, shared experiences and culture. Their yellow neons clash against and subvert the white, clean-cut surfaces they find themselves attached to, critiquing the status quo and celebrating the shared efforts of the artist’s community towards equity in America.
